Tarangire National Park is the sixth largest national park in Tanzania. It is located in Manyara Region. During the dry season thousands of animals migrate to the Tarangire National Park from Manyara National Park.

It covers an area of approximately 2,850 km2. The landscape and vegetation is incredibly diverse with a mix that is not found anywhere else in the northern safari circuit.

Wildlife

The park is home to a vast number of animals which include zebra, wildebeest, elephant, lesser kudu, eland, giant pythons, impala, hartebeest, waterbuck, giraffe and olive baboons.

It is also home to more than 550 bird species, the park is a haven for bird enthusiasts who can expect to see dozens of species even in the dry season, with the Yellow-collared Lovebirds a common sighting in the trees along the Tarangire River.

Climatic Conditions

It receives an average of 650 mm of rain annually.

Major Attractions

The park is also famous for the termite mounds that dot the landscape. It is also famous for its huge number of elephants, baobab trees and tree climbing lions.

It is located about 118 km south-west of Arusha.

  • By Air: Charter flights from Arusha and the Serengeti.
