Mount Kilimanjaro National Park is located 321 km south of the equator in Kilimanjaro Region, Tanzania. It is located near the city of Moshi.

Kilimanjaro is one of the world’s most accessible high summits. Most visitors will reach the crater rim with little more than a walking stick, proper clothing and determination. And those who reach Uhuru Point, the actual summit, or Gilman’s point on the lip of crater, will have earned their climbing certificates.


A variety of animals can be found in the park. They include Kilimanjaro tree hyrax, common duiker, elephants, zebras, antelopes and leopards which can be seen hunting for game.

Climatic Conditions

Equatorial to arctic conditions are experienced on Kilimanjaro. The range begins with the warm, dry plains with the average temperatures of 30o C.

Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, reaching a height of 5,895 metres.


It is located about 180 km from Arusha.

  • By Road: Road transfers from Arusha.

Best time to visit

During the warm season from December to February and also dry (and colder) from July to September.
