Karatu District is one of the six districts in the Arusha Region of Tanzania. It is bordered by the Ngorongoro District to the north, the Shinyanga Region to the west, the Monduli District to the east and the Manyara Region to the south and south-east.

Karatu is an area of fertile coffee and arable farms on the south eastern slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater. The area sits at about 7,500ft above sea level. It is a small town of the Karatu district and its rangy landscape is very miscellaneous and is a popular tourist destination for the Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit.

The main road through Karatu is leading to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and to the famous Serengeti National Park. Another park, Lake Manyara National Park, is just 25km far and provides also a multitude of birds and species and other beautiful wildlife.
